Description
Original late-1970s to early-1980s Pierre & Jean Rémy Paris dress, made in France and retaining its original card stock tag.
A beautifully bright raspberry-red or cerise colour with fine horizontal stripes in blue, yellow, black and pale pink. The lightweight fabric has a soft satin sheen and moves beautifully.
The dress has a tie neckline that can be worn in a bow or left more relaxed, gentle gathering across the shoulder yoke, short cuffed sleeves and fabric-covered buttons through the bodice. A matching narrow belt with a fabric-covered buckle shapes the dropped waist, leading into a finely pleated midi skirt.
It is a lovely example of late-70s French secretary style moving into the softer dropped-waist silhouettes of the early 1980s. Easy to dress up with heels and a small bag, or wear more casually with ballet flats, loafers or simple trainers.
Labelled French size 40. The actual chest measures approximately 34 inches, so it is likely to suit around a present-day UK 8, possibly a small UK 10 depending on body shape and preferred ease.
Approximate flat measurements:
Pit to pit: 17 inches
Width at dropped waist: 18 inches
Shoulder to hem: 44 inches
The fabric composition is not shown on the available label. It appears to be a lightweight silky synthetic fabric, likely polyester, but this is not confirmed.
Very good unworn or near-unworn vintage condition with the original tag still attached. There is a small snag or pulled thread in the fabric, photographed clearly. The belt, buckle, buttons, neck tie and pleated skirt are all present.
A brilliant choice for summer parties, drinks, vintage events, wedding-guest dressing, birthdays, races, holidays or colourful everyday wear. The lightweight fabric and short sleeves make it far more seasonally useful than many darker vintage occasion dresses.
